What happens in Vegas!

What Happens in Vegas... comes into our Blog. Well the PG part. Just kidding. But honestly. You'll never know.

After a good breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, and french toast, our buses to Nevada started rollin'. It took about five hours full of music, movies, water and fun until we arrived at the Las Vegas outlet, a little bit out of town. We had about three hours to walk around, get some lunch and get overwhelmed by the heat of Nevada, which was made bearable by the many air moisturizers that constantly sprayed water at the visitors. That was really refreshing!
We did some window shopping and tried to prepare us emotionally for Vegas. Which didn't really work.
Honestly, one can't comprehend Vegas without having been there. Even though it was still light outside, the size of the whole town was just overwhelming. Seeing the probably most entertaining city worldwide, which is located right in the middle of a desert, with our own eyes was just incredible. We checked in at our hotel, some people had a pool party, some started to get ready for dinner. Our buses picked us up and we got to eat at an amazing Buffet. There was American, Italian, Asian, Mexican and other international food. Not to forget the desert. We were able to see people gambling at slot machines and enjoying our food, until we got our ribbons for the limousine. The ticket to the Highlight of the day. The ride in the limousines. We had 5 hummer limos waiting for us. Two in white, one in grey, one in black and one in bright pink. (This one was everybody's favorite, even though they might not admit it. ;)  )

It was just overwhelming. All those lights, hotels, things everybody knows from movies and and we were right in the middle of it. In a limosuines. It was just breathtaking. It is so hard to put this in words.
Dancing to loud music and being absolutely stunned by Las Vegas' nightlife, colors, and lights, we made our way to Fremont Street.
WOW.

A live band was playing, no one famous but good enough to get a good atmosphere going, and we started to take pictures, look around and to pose with dresses up people.

And at 10 p.m.Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Talpor and Freddie Mercury appeared at the big screen above us.

Queen welcomed us to Las Vegas. The feeling of 70 exchange students plus Belo Staff and other tourists singing 'we will rock you' and we are the champions was incomparable. We left the Street in such a good mood, and made our way to the Water-Light-Show at the famous Bellagio Hotel. It was Amazing. Incredible how much impressions water, lights, and music can make on someone. The fountains were shooting so high and we perfectly synchronized with the music that was playing.

'Oh what a night' to quote 'Jersey Boys'.

After the show was over,we stopped at the famous 'Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas' sign and took a lot of pictures. The night was so long, but so short at the same time when we arrived overly excited at our hotel!

It is one thing falling asleep like a star after a long ride in a limo - It is a different thing waking up like a star. I do not believe that any of us mastered that task properly but I have faith that all of us have the potential to be stars - Just not in early mornings.
So, after they send us of with a limo yesterday, the monitors and chaperones now had the difficult task to surprise us again. Well, if a teenager is in Vegas there is one thing he or she definitely wants to do: Explore the Vegas Strip on their own - maturely and responsible for sure though! Long story short, our supervisors sent us off to explore the strip not once, but twice; In the morning and in the evening (then, when the city truly comes to life). What we saw, heard and tasted there is quite difficult to describe - Music coming out of every corner of the streets, filling the air with the rhythm of summer. People dressed as Drags, superheroes, TV-characters and everything else you can imagine crowd the streets, offering pictures with them for a "complimentary tip" (3 or more dollars most of the time) or just showing off their weirdly beautiful spirit, surrounded by the magic of the lights of Vegas. And last but not least: Theme-stores such as the M&M shop or the Coke shop right next to it, where you can, for example, buy a tray with 16 different sodas from all over the world. If you ever come to Vegas you should check that out - even though some of the soda-flavors are quite questionable. Also go and see the inside of some of the hotels; You'll find casinos, uneffortable stores and pretty decoration as well as thrilling rides all over the place in almost every single hotel.
Talking about thrilling rides: We ate lunch at the stratosphere - a huge tower with an overlook over whole Las Vegas. But the best thing are the rides on the top of that huge building. There are three of them, all sort of different than what you can find at a theme-park. All of them work that perfect because of the height-level. I mean, what is more exciting than sitting on top of a tower that is located on top of another tower, falling down into the lights of Vegas, thinking "Please don't drop me, please don't drop me"?
Ok, I see what you think; This all sounds like a ton of fun; Las Vegas - The city of the most happy Drag Queens, most extreme rides, best food, hugest hotels and whatsoever... But what did my child/ friend/ exchange-student really learn there? Well, I have to tell you that Las Vegas is also the city of the most glorious Performers. David Copperfield and Chris Angel lead you into a world of illusions and Magic, famous singers from all over the world perform in hotels daily. And actors, dancers and acrobats enchant Las Vegas' tourists with breathtaking performances. All of us exchange-students had the possibility to add a point to our program: O, the famous Cirque de Solei show that none of us had ever heard about but since our monitors highly recommended it most of us decided to pay a little more and visit the show. Those who decided not to see the performance stayed at the hotel.
Now, people, it is said that the theater is the place where life is interpreted, dreams are brought to life in front of your eyes and secret desires are awaken. I visit the theater regularly - But I have never seen anything more magical than this! O surprises with the fact that it is not like regular theater-shows in the sense of having a story-line. Or in this case not having a story-line. But was it really just an acrobatic adventure? Maybe there was a story behind the actors, between the lines, under the water that filled half of the stage. I found one for myself - And I believe that is the magic about O: Everybody can find their own story, their own interpretation of the piece even though there is no such thing as a "right" interpretation of what the actors do on stage. O combines acrobatic talent with ballet and enchanting music. Music that underlines the movement on stage, bursts out into the audience, flattering, breathtaking, dancing in the ears of the audience until they are as much a part of the happening on stage as the performers. Cirque de Solei consumes your attention, your emotions, your souls from the beginning on and does not let them go until the final curtain falls. So, I talked about learning earlier. What is there to learn, you wonder? Even though O can be interpreted many different ways, one thing was clearly outstanding: The constellation of the characters. The beauty that is adored by everyone chooses to dance with a hunchback, the young feller is chasing his girl like a butterfly, up and down, until he gets her to fall for him. The red gentleman and the spiritful wild one battle each other in a constant push and pull on the ropes of the world. It sounds so strange, so supernatural - And yet it is what life is like. If I was supposed to write a conclusion about the meaning of O it would probably sound like that: No matter whether you are an ugly hunchback trying to be a gentleman, a beauty that is adored and loved by everyone, a boy on his search for love, a red butler with incredible dancing-skills or a wild spirit searching for freedom (and you can find all of those characters in the show) - As long as your life is imperfect - as long as it leaves you room to wish for something, to have a dream - your possibilities, your potential and your heartbeat have the shape of an O - They have neither a beginning, nor an end.
